On Friday night my little brother had his senior prom. We took pictures of him in his tux and some of his gorgeous friends in their beautiful dresses, we fussed over hair and “ohh”ed and “ahh”ed at dresses and shoes. We laughed, took lots of silly pictures and waved as they drove off, headed for a fun night of pictures, dinner, dancing, trampoline parks and pancakes. I was happy and excited for Michael and his friends but I was glad I was the girl in the Nike shorts and oversized sweatshirt, instead of the prom dress.

And as they drove down the street, I talked to one of my best friends who is getting married in May. We talked about the dishes she wants to have and the spice rack and ironing board that she registered for. I am SO incredibly happy for my friends as they begin this new life together and I am so excited about the path that God has them on, but when Kristi went home I realized I am glad I am the girl in the Nike shorts and oversized sweatshirt, as single as can be.

And as I went in my room and got all excited because I got 20% off a pair of quick drying underwear for my trip I began to laugh, I laughed and laughed until I could hardly breath. Who would have thought at age 21 I would be sitting at home on a Friday night buying underwear online? I sure didn’t. When telling my mom about the underwear this sentence actually came out of my mouth: “Mom, they are fast drying, I can wash them at night, hang them in my tent and they will be dry by morning so I can wear them again!” I never in a million years thought I would say something like that. But you know what? I love it. I am the girl in the Nike shorts and oversized sweatshirt, buying underwear on a Friday night, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

I absolutely love how God has different plans and paths for each and every one of us and how they are so perfectly tailored to our personalities and our passions. I am so incredibly thankful that I am on this crazy, hilarious, stressful and sometimes overwhelming path of preparation for the World Race, the path of support raising, immunizations, passports, gear and even quick drying underwear.

What a wonderful God we have that pursues us, loves us and has a plan for each of our lives. I am so thankful that the World Race is a part of that plan. I am the girl in the Nike shorts and oversized sweatshirt, going on the World Race and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
