What did God teach me?

This month the Holy Spirit, through a variety of methods, convicted me of many things in my relationship with the Lord and my relationships with other people.  It will be an on-going process of reliance upon God and accountability from my teammates, but God is doing some awesome stuff to mold me into His likeness.

If I could sum up this month with one word, it would be conviction.  It was a hard month, but also one with tremendous memories.  I know I said this about Honduras, but I will be back in El Salvador, sometime and someway.

“I have been crucified with Christ, it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

Who will I remember?

Juan Carlos – our ministry contact who arranged all of our activities, taught me Spanish, cooked with us, and taught me Spanish worship songs.

Yanci – our cook, friend, and everything else.  She didn’t speak a word of English, but we connected over food, soccer, and life.

Gustavo – This guy, pictured above, is crazy!  He is crazy, animated, awesome, and loves the Lord passionately.  He shared his testimony with us through a translator one night.  Before he met Jesus, Gustavo was living the life of a singer/performer and struggling with a drug addiction.  Now, when he leads worship at church you can see the freedom he has in Christ.  His joy is unbounded and he loves life.  His mixture of English, Spanish, and charades will forever serve as the strangest example of communication I have ever seen or heard.

Carlos – Carlos is, well, Carlos.  I’m going to write a blog about him soon.  Suffice to say for the moment, he is a fantastic mentor, friend, and chef.

George – George is one of the unsung heroes we met in El Salvador.  Apparently, we have a lot of mutual friends from Tulsa.  He is a young pastor, struggling to keep up a church and serve his community well.

What is my prayer for El Salvador?

My prayer for El Salvador is a bit different than my prayer for Honduras.

I pray that God will ignite passion in El Salvador.  Many of the people we met had been inundated by Catholicism as well as Protestantism.  I pray that the church will walk out it’s true calling to be different from the world and to be the hands and feet of Christ.
