My days in Albania are full of activity, yet not much to write home about.
The chorus of seven different alarms in our begins erupting at 7 am. My alarm drags me out of fogginess precisely 5 minutes before breakfast. I fall off the top bunk and stumble down the hall to the bathroom. I slip into my work clothes (clothes that will probably not be worn again) and run up two flights of stairs to scarf down bread, mystery jam, and a hard boiled egg. Finally able to open my eyes and have coherent conversation, I settle into the back row of chairs the prepare for bible study. As a squad, we are studying Proverbs and Matthew.
After bible study and receiving our work assignments for the day, I run downstairs, put on my contacts, and meet my work group for the day. Most days are pretty chill, just whitewashing or painting. Tuesday provided some excitement. We were responsible for whitewashing the barn and pretty much every single wall on the whole property. We’re not nearly done yet. Tuesday was the pig sty’s turn. I spent most of the afternoon balancing on a wooden pallet that was slowly sinking into the mud (or whatever that soupy material actually was). All I’m going to say, is I will have some great muscles by the end of this month.
All of the time at work gives me quite a bit of time for good conversation and contemplation. Daily bible study with the squad has also pushed me deeper into relationship with God. It has been encouraging to learn with and from my squadmates.
