So Malaysia was a bit of a different month because it was an all girls group (15 girls) living in a 2 room apartment in Penang. We had the opportunity to volunteer at a The Adventist hospital and at a homeless shelter/kitchen called Kawan. We also had the chance to go to Penang House of Prayer (PenHop).
At the hospital our main job was to help raise money for them to provide free heart surgery for children who could not otherwise afford it, we went around the hospital and asked people to buy these little heart money boxes people were so generous. Over the 2 weeks our teams raised over RM 6,000. It was very rewarding knowing the cause. We also got to help stuff and sew these little animals for the pediatrics ward which was super fun. It was such and amazing opportunity to bless the HR and development staff at the hospital.

Then at Kawan, the shelter/kitchen, we were able to go there and help serve and make both breakfast and lunch 3 times a week. It was a little bit more difficult then it is at home to build relationships because of the language barrier. But most were still more then happy to practice what little english they did know on you and their faces lit up as we sat down to give them our attention even if just for a little bit. They were all very friendly but all in desperate need of the love and identity that we can find in God. Then on Wednesday night when we did street ministry we saw most of the same people we saw at Kawan but we had more opportunity to sit, visit and sometimes even pray openly for them. It was sad to see most of them were drug users and the drug of choice here is glue because it is so cheap, but it is so damaging to their brains. I absolutly loved this opportunity. Please join me in praying for the people who run the Kawan center and for all the homeless people that frequant their doorstep for food and shelter.

The Penang House of prayer was a wonderful experience as well. We went there twice a week just to do prayer and worship. It was so amazing to be in a room full of people from all over the world, some from Malaysia, Korea and America and all be worshiping to the same songs. We did alot of prayer for the church in Malaysia and Korea, mostly against the spirit of apathy. Please continue to lift up these churches in your prayers as they are living in and faced with a very dominant muslim culture.
