I have a desire to serve Christ by serving others and sharing hope in lives that otherwise have little hope.  I want to teach, help, and serve under God's direction and in places I never could have dreamed possible!  But how?

I am committed to 11 months on a journey through 11 countries to do just that.  Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam/Laos, Cambodia India, Nepal, Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, Ukraine, and Romania here I come!  The process for this mission was applying, praying and accepting the offer.  I did all of these things and am now set to go….except for a minor detail…. Finances, or lack thereof.

This opportunity has brought out a range of reactions in people I live life with and those I encounter along the way.    It has been a hard subject for some friends who don't understand wanting to serve people that live in another country.  "What about America?"  they ask.  I get discouraged when people believe sincerely that asking for support is silly and that if I can't pay to go, then I shouldn't.  The reality is, I sometimes feel the same way.  I hate the thought of asking people for money.  I hate not being able to pay for what I want to do in the next year.  I often get discouraged at the thought of offending people.  The good news is that I will be back in a year and can have a life long ministry and opportunity to help people in America.  This once in a lifetime opportunity to serve overseas is now and I intend to follow God's direction there.  The other good news is that no matter how discouraged I may get, God is on my side, therefore, I can count on being encouraged sooner rather than later!

That encouragement comes through friends and family who believe in the power of Christ and in the need for people to "go and share with all the nations" Mark 16:15.  I am encouraged by the generosity of people I hardly know, that believe what I am doing is worthy and necessary.  It affirms what God placed in my heart back in March.  I am so thankful for support in prayer and in finances that have already been given.  This opportunity would not be possible without financial support and would not be beneficial without prayer support.   So, through this blog, I am asking for both.

I want to thank those who have already so generously given and those that are already praying.  I encourage you to share my blog site with your friends and family.  Encourage them to sign up to read what God is doing in my life from September 2012 to July 2013 and in the next two months of preparation.

As of June 23, 2012 I am 1/3 of the way funded, exceeding my July 1st goal!   Whoo Hoo for my first met goal!
If you feel led to give financially, there are two great options.  The first is to click this link, 4https://www.adventures.org/give/donate.asp?giveto=worldrace&desc=For%20Shannon%20Horn&tuid=12966324
or click on "Give Support Funds" through my blog at shannonhorn.theworldrace.org and follow the directions to give safely online with a credit card.  You can also very easily send a check directly to Adventures in Missions (the parent organization) with "The World Race-Shannon Horn" in the subject line.  Their address is:

I can't wait to relay the message of what God is doing through me to help the people in 11 other countries.  I can't wait to share what life looks like across the world.  I can't wait to be a "real life missionary".  I can't wait to hold a child in Africa and tell them Jesus loves them more than I ever could, and that is a ton!  I can't wait to witness to my friend from Ukraine that I frequently talk to online and see her for the first time in 2 years.  I can't wait to be enlightened by how much excess we have in the US and how happy people can be without it, and then to share that with you all!  Basically, I cannot wait to embark on this journey, and because of your support, I WILL get there!smiley
