Bagot Community is surrounded by bondage. There is so much bondage to addictions that it is sometimes hard to realize there are Christians who don’t drink and who have been freed from addictions by the Lord. Jane and Joy are two examples. They are both older women whose families are still addicted to grog, gunge, and gambling, but they have made a decision to worship right along beside our WR teams at church and bible study! Lulu is a beautiful 23-year-old woman that is passionate about God and has decided to move away from the community in order to pursue that relationship and not be so pressured by peers and family. What an encouragement to know God is working!
Veril is not in that boat. She came wasted to the bible study Wednesday and it wasn’t until the end of the service that she asked us for help. She described herself as being an alcoholic, a drunken slut, having two children by married men, a drug addict, and a f***ing failure. Now try and tell me this woman is not in need of God’s power through the Holy Spirit. I immediately felt convicted to tell her how much God loves her even through everything and that He wants to rescue her from those things. She knew the gospel of Jesus, so I shared with her more about calling upon His name and knowing that He lives within us. She accepted Christ, my friends. She prayed the most heartfelt prayer confessing to God what was wrong with her and that she could not go on alone any longer. Now, I don’t believe all of her physical problems just disappeared. It will take continuous battling, but she is a child of God and a force to be reckoned with! I just felt the presence of the Lord in that intense time of prayer. It was like He was giving me words to say and scripture to see as I was scared just listening to Veril.
God is good and He can do all things. That time of payer was a significant light in this ministry and gives me so much hope in walking, talking, and praying in the Bagot community.
Feel free to join me in being prayer warriors for this community that the addictions might end and be replaced with an earnest love for Christ!
