One of my favorite things about Cambodia is their public transportation. You have two main choices: a moto which is hopping on the back of a man’s motorbike and a tuk tuk which is a cart with 2 bench seats attached to a motorbike. I have ridden on both. The traffic is incredibly insane in Phnom Penh. There are no rules and no traffic signs. Just whoever honks the most and gets through the intersection first. I also love all the coffee shops that they have in this country. It has always been my favorite thing to hang out in coffee shops and read and it made it feel like home to be able to do that.
Some firsts for me in Cambodia:
1. Eating a grasshopper (very crunchy and takes a while to chew)
2.Eating a tarantula leg
3. Riding an elephant around a temple on a main road and then later seieing the lephant walking through the riverside tourist area.
4. Drinking iced coffee in a bag. You have to drink it before the ice melts because its not clean water.
5. Living with a rat or 2. We named him Templeton. However he came to his death on our second to last night when Pastor Keat and the dog beat the rat to death. It was quite eventful.
6. I got a full body Kmer massage for $6
I have truly loved my time here in Cambodia. I am going to see Ankgor Wat tomorrow which is the largest temple complex inthe world. On Saturday we leave for Bangkok, Thailand and will be there until April 7th and then we head to our ministry sites. This month is going to be really different. The guys are all going to do man-a-try in Chiang Mai. Team Bling is going to be split up this month. Liz, Blair, and Kristen will be in Selapume working with a church there that is on the grounds of a leper colony. Ashley will be going to Phuket to work with SHE ministry which is ministry to prostitutes. Kara and I will be going to Chiang Mai to work with LIghthouse ministry doing any number of things including children’s ministry, going into bars to minister to prostitutes or loving on babies infected with HIV.
