Weeks Three & Four…

From Penang I took a ferry across to the mainland to catch a six hour train ride down the the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.  To say that I was totally STOKED to ride a train to KL would be a complete understatement…just ask anyone that knew I was traveling through Malaysia via the railway system. haha

I arrived in KL excited to take on whatever ministries were ahead for myself and Team DayBreak in weeks three and four of this month. Here is the recap of the end of the month:
  • Teaching classes (Science, English, Math, and Bible) to Burmees refugee students.  Before this month I had little to no understanding of the prosecution the Christians in Myanmar are facing. From my little knowledge, the Burmees military has taken over the government and they are killing Christians all across the country.  In an effort to save their lives, these families have illegally smuggled themselved into countries such as Malaysia and Thailand where many of them are protected by the UN while their proper paperwork is being filed. Once their paperwork is approved and they have passed their medical examinations they are legally sent to a country such as the United States to begin their life again. Once they are in the States they are required to attend a full year of English training and pass a competency exam.  They look for employment and get connected to churches and community- whatever they can to begin their new life, free of the risk of losing their lives for their faith.
  • The team here has also had a chance to see first hand what Christians in the business world look like. We have partnered with local restaurant owners who are on fire for the Lord.  I say restaurant owners, but this couple is so much more than that. They have devoted hours of their time to pouring into our teams, and teaching us what the Lord has taught them throughout the years about serving Him. It has been an absolute blessing to see how a business truly can be a ministry.
  • We were also blessed to do a little sightseeing on our days off at Batu Caves, Petronas Towers (largest twin towers in the world), and the last two days we spent at a oceansideChristian retreat center with Team Rush.  Our ministry contacts set this little two day retreat up to bless us with a period of relaxing and refreshing as we prepared to enter into a new month of ministry. It was an absolutely amazing time of rest, sunshine, and worship & prayer under the stars.
Malaysia has been one of my favorite countries on the Race.  I loved being involved in urban ministries.  I keep brainstorming ideas for my life after the Race and one thing that this month has taught me is that if God calls me back to the business arena in America, or even back to the States at all, there are SO many way in which I can serve the Kingdom. The possibilities for ministry are literally endless.  I don’t have to go to a third world country to find hurting people, hopeful refugees, hungry children, hopeless women, or… comfortable Christians. Maybe at the end of the Race God will call me to another country, but He is also opening up my eyes to see the many ways He can use me in the “land of the free” as well. Either way, my cry remains the same…

“All I want is for You to have Your way, You are the Potter and I am the clay.
All I need is You to have Your way, for you are Creator and I am what You’ve made.
 Finally I surrender, finally I surrender, finally I surrender, finally I surrender… “
