Here we are in the first 48 hours of our journey and I can honestly say that it has truly been amazing! On Thursday evening all the team leaders met up with the squad leaders in LAX
and grabbed a redeye flight on the 1st. After 5 hours of flying, an apple and pancake breakfast on the plane, and an hour layover in El Salvador, we safely arrived in Guatemala City. From there, all thirteen of us piled into a couple vans and enjoyed the scenic, one hour drive to a hostel in Antigua where we are staying for these first few days of training before we are sent out to our various ministry locations.
Last night we had our first experience with the Antigua marketplace, and let me tell you, it was an experience! Luckily one of the team leaders is able to speak Spanish so we were able to barter for the food we needed for a few group meals. As it neared dark we finished up our purchases and began the stroll back down the cobblestone roads to our hostel where we prepared our dinner- noodles in chicken broth, guacamole, and fresh bread…mmm….mmm….good! 🙂
Today we began the day with praise and worship followed by a leadership training session. Then, much to our delight, our Logistics and Finance people arrived just in time for lunch- vegetable sandwiches, chips and salsa, and fruit salad.
So this is it- this is the start to an amazing 11 month journey. I am so excited to see the miracles and learning experiences that God has in store for us! J
