One of my most vivid childhood memories was my first pursuit to “run away from home”. At that time my daddy was the pastor of Tangier Friends Church in the middle of the ruralest of the rural in Parke County, IN. My momma was the worship leader and lead guitarist for the most rocking worship band in our sleepy town. We lived in a 1-story white house with a big yard complete with cherry tree, fully climbable propane tank, plastic baby swimming pool, and a sidewalk long enough I could sprint down in my Big Wheeler. We raised beagle puppies and I shared a room with my little sister DonaMarie.
In my very valiant and purposeful (yeah… right) attempt to run away from home through the post-harvest corn fields that lined our back yard I think I made it about 200 yards before I realized that I didn’t have the necessary supplies to make it all the way to where ever I was going, but what I did have every since that young age was a search and craving for something more. This adventurous spirit that God has placed in my heart is how I am able to trust that the huge adventure of The World Race is in His plan for my life.
For those who have a personal relationship with me you very well know that I am a very straight forward and driven person. Sometimes too much – but hey, I’m working on it 😉 But when it comes to the World Race I am actually a bit scared and have at one point questioned God’s plan… But today I came across this verse, “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a Spirit of power.” 2 Timothy 1:7. I believe God gave me this verse to remind that the strength I feel I have as an individual is imperfect but is strengthen by His presence and light in my life! How amazing is that?! Even though we are human, fully imperfect, and sometimes just plain silly the creator of the universe wants to instill in us a sense power in His name!
Another verse that complements this topic is found in Joshua, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. ” Joshua 1:9. This verse is perfect for a World Racer, a stock market analyst, a stay at home mom, an orphan, a NCAA basketball team member in the Final Four, or an astronaut. The reaffirmation that our God is by our side, whether we accept it or not, at every moment of every day is so awesome and mind boggling that I cannot not but help to praise His name and answer His calling.
Have a blessed day and remember that we serve a God of peace.
Here is a little worship music to inspire your day!
