Is this real life?
Has The World Race really started?
….Those are the questions that keep running through my mind. I just have to keep reminding myself that I’m not dreaming; THIS IS REAL!
We made it to Antigua, Guatemala early in the morning on October 7th. The other team leaders and I flew down a day early for some extra training sessions. Antigua is exactly how I pictured it: cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and rich culture. Believe it or not, it’s colder here than it is in Georgia. The first night here I found myself wearing half my wardrobe in an effort to stay warm! My Spanish skills were quickly put to use on the streets and in the markets. Quiero practicar mi castellano cada oportunidad que yo tengo!
Our teammates arrived on October 8thand our quiet hostel quickly transformed into a noisy hub filled with overstuffed backpacks, shouts of excitement, guitar jam sessions, prayer circles and lines outside the three bathrooms. Welcome to The World Race!
“Launch” is the term The World Race uses to define the first few days of the Race. It is a time set aside for our squad to become acquainted with each other as well as to the culture of World Race. Through informational meetings, worship sessions, team feedback , and intentional conversations, launch was a opportunity to become prepared for the next 11 months!
It’s so difficult for my mind to wrap around the fact that this is real life…(I find myself referring to my life in the States as my “real life”….For example: “In real life I’m working on my Master’s of Education and work for The WinShape Foundation”) However, this is REAL and I’m so thankful to be here. It is a wonderful feeling to know the peace that comes from being exactly where God wants me. I have already fallen in love with the six other people on my team and I’m excited to begin our ministry for the month. I will be sure to update soon about where God has us serving for the month of October!
***Look for an update soon to read about my team and the ministry we are involved with this month in Guatemala***
