So at the beginning of this journey, before my team and I left the states, we were all given keys on necklaces with a word on it. Cool right? We were told that it was a word that the Lord was specifically speaking over us for this next season of our life and as you probably guessed, mine said worthy.
When I first pulled it out of the envelope and read it my first reaction was “What the heck is that supposed to mean? Worthy of what?” I had that little guy hanging around my neck for a few weeks while we were in the Dominican Republic but took it off, put it in my backpack, and forgot about it.
Fast forward!!!!
While we were camping in a village in Botswana, people started talking about their keys and what they found the Lord was speaking to them through their keys. When I was asked about mine I didn’t have an answer. Then I was asked if “Have you been wearing it?” “No… no I haven’t” I replied. My squad mates raised the point that maybe I haven’t figured out what it means because I haven’t been wearing it.
So I started wearing it again. When I was wearing it in the D.R. I was very new to the concept of God actually talking to us. I wasn’t listening. But what’s funny is when I put it back on and actually opened my ears in that little REI tent, I heard something.
I heard the Lord telling me “Yes, you are worthy of being here, but you need to dive deeper in the word. Deeper into why I’ve called you here.”
For pretty much my whole life I thought of God as this big dude up in heaven that was just watching everything in the world unfold. I didn’t have an actual relationship with Him. I didn’t know what it meant to be a child of God. I didn’t know that He actually heard my prayers.
I listened to a sermon a few weeks ago and it was talking about what the throne room up in heaven actually looks and sounds like as described in Revelation and what happens when we pray. Long story short the throne room is beautiful, loud and crowded, but beautiful. When we pray, it goes silent. The crowd of angels split and we walk to the throne and stand before the Lord God. When we pray He says “This ones mine” because he loved us so much He sent His only son to die for me and everyone else.
That’s what we are worthy of.
