My brother-in-law recently asked me if I had ever dreamed I would actually be doing something like this… traveling around the world, hopping from one country to the next, loving on orphans, and helping those in need. My response…”Of Course!”.

For some the immensity of The World Race is still to daunting. They are struggling with God’s calling and haven’t brought themselves to apply yet.

For some it has taken months and months to give into God’s plan and apply. They have a career, a house, a car and giving up everything seems crazy not only to them but their friends and family. Yet, in the end God knows best and they know his plans never fail.

For some this trip is out of their comfort zone. The idea of
living out of a backpack for a year and talking to strangers isn’t really appealing to them, but with God on their side they know they can overcome anything.

For some, like me, this trip wasn’t about God leading us down a path we were uncertain about. For us, it’s more like we’ve been waiting at the starting line of a race and God has finally given the count down… “On your mark, get set, GO!”.

When I was younger I used to tell my mom that I wanted people to ask her “Where’s Shanda these days?” and I wanted her reply to be “I’m not sure, last I heard she was in Thailand, but that was a few days ago, she could have already moved on to somewhere new.” Now years later it’s all happening!

Every team is made up of all the types … the “get set, go” the “out of my comfort zone”, and the “really God? are you sure your plan involves me leaving all that I’ve worked for?” type. Although we each had different circumstances that lead us to this journey, we are all here together.  With only 18 days left (that’s right, less than three weeks!) the excitement can barely be contained.

Please continue to pray for all 34 of us as we prepare for our upcoming departure on June 29th. Pray that we are spiritually, mentally, physically, and emotionally prepared to go out there and give it our all for God. Also, pray that we would be able to raise the needed support by our departure date. If you would like to donate to this trip each of us has a ‘support me’ link on the left hand side of our blog that will lead you through the process.

As a final note, I encourage all those who are struggling with applying for the World Race to go for it. God’s plans for you are 100 times better than you can even imagine and if He’s calling you to the World Race then He has something amazing in store for you that you don’t want to miss out on.
