I feel the need to write a blog, updating people on what exactly has been going on this month. I recently returned from a two week trip to the Gateway near Matamoros, Mexico. For the past two months a group of 30+ 18-22 years olds have been training for a six month mission trip to various locations around the globe. One of these teams is eight large, most are just out of high school. There are 4 girls and 4 guys and they’ll be coming down here to Granada in a little over a week for six months. I’ll give you a quick look into this team. Very quick, because I have to go help make food for about 50 people. Which reminds me, I suppose I should write about that sometime.
So this team of eight is pretty great. They seek the Lord and to grow together with a greater level of intensity and dedication than I have ever seen in a team of their age. They love each other well, evidenced by their hugs, persistent encouragement, feedback and service to each other. They are a group you wouldn’t naturally fit together, with varying interests, personalities and backgrounds, but they love each other so much and say it often. There are four girls and four guys. I’ll be discipling each of the guys while they’re here and guiding the team in spiritual growth and ministry to the people of Granada. Heather King will be investing into the team as well and discipling the girls. This will look like joining them in ministry, meeting one-on-one to hear personally how each individual is going, dance parties, conversations over the kitchen table and much more. I am excited about having them out here.
They arrive on November 30th. Please join me in praying for their growth over the next six months as I dedicate myself to them.
In other news, there are several turkeys at the local grocery store, but no oven in which to cook it. Frank, another gringo missionary here, and I have been put in charge of cooking it. Two years ago I made a turkey on the World Race in the Philippines with a couple of pots over some hot coals and it worked out pretty well. I’m praying take 2 is just as good. If you have any experience or suggestions, please do share.
OK, time to go make a bunch of food for some hungry humans. I’d venture to say the vast majority of them are jobless and many of them are homeless and/or drug addicts. I want to have the Holy Spirit do an amazing work in their lives, but don’t know how to facilitate that. Going to pray about it now.
