A September Racer left yesterday after she realized that she wasn’t ready for it. Her name is Sarah Barkie. Not only was she a September racer, but she was to be on my smaller team of seven. We are now 6 and have 5 of us here at training camp (the others trained in April). I appreciate her honesty with herself and with us. I have been ensured that all our issues will come out during the race.

To feed your curiosity, the mysterious destination yesterday was a group of “squirrel’s nests.” I wish I could show you guys a picture, but I’ll describe them to you… they are 16 platforms with one wall adjacent to railing in the front and an angling roof.

One of my teammates, Brandon, didn’t bring his sleeping bag or mat. He didn’t sleep the first night. When asked why he did this, he said “I just thought the long sleeve would be enough.” I took pitty the second night and shared by sleeping bag. What I didn’t realize was that my sleeping bag is small, as am I, and Brandon is tall… and agressive in his sleep. The second night I slept very little until the early morning. Brandon realized he was being viscious toward me and left our squirrel’s nest. After he did this I finally slept. Most of us have been tired consistently.

We’re about halfway through training camp.
