I got a phone call from my dad Friday morning and he started asking questions about church. A blog disciple of his has been trying to live out the Acts church and Luke 10 challenges in everyday life. Conversation about him and what he was doing began to evolve into us and what we should do.
We would start meeting for church somewhere on Sunday.
My place?
Yup.
Would one of us prepare something?
Nope… we’d leave that up to the Holy Spirit’s movement.
Fast forward to this morning… thirteen young people sat around a room in the house I recently moved into with three other guys (yeah, update coming). A feeling of insecurity came over me. The four of us guys got together the previous night to “plan” and came out with two things: Neil would say something to introduce everyone and Aaron would guide us into a state of worship. Insecurity because that was all that was planned and we had done all of that in the first fifteen minutes.
“So, what now God?” I asked him
I wanted to put more structure to it. I wanted to tame the “service” and control what was happening, but God really wouldn’t have any of it.
“Nothing,” he responded. “You don’t have to make something happen. Let me work.”
We went on to pray over each other as God led us. We asked God how we could open ourselves up to his movement and he spoke. We opened up and ministered to each other. Everyone participated, and it led to further action.
The Lord spoke to many of us in the group about reaching out to the Hispanic community in Gainesville. This Wednesday we’ll get together some food and have a barbecue in a nearby park. We’ll open ourselves up to the Lord’s agenda and move as He leads. I’m looking forward to it.
