Oh the joys of living in a foreign country! Over this last week, our team has been introduced to many new and exciting things.

We visited a market where we purchased fresh pineapple and mango, banana chips, and dried fruits for very cheap! Not only did we try these sweet treats, we also snacked on spiders! I use the word “snacked” very loosely… I tried one leg and that was quite enough! Good flavor, but hairy texture!

One of the biggest differences I’ve noticed while living here is the bathroom situation. We do have actual, American-style toilets… but you have to pour water in the bowl for it to flush, and even then, it’s not always very effective. We get to take bucket showers too, and although the water occasionally looks questionable, at least I feel mostly clean when I’m done! Bugs love the small, humid shower rooms, as do frogs and some very large spiders! This makes for some exciting showers…

We were recently able to raise money to help out with some projects needing done at the orphanage, and received funding above and beyond our goal! With the extra donations, we took the older kids from the orphanage to Phnom Penh and all went to a trampoline park! It was a day full of laughter and sweating!

Within the last few days, we have started walking to the orphanage after our evening English class to pray with all of the kids before bed. This new tradition has quickly become a highlight of my day! Its encouraging to hear the kids praying, and they also love to give out hugs at the end! God has really been revealing Himself through the kids here, and it’s been encouraging for me! I have been stretched in ways greater than I was expecting, but I’ve also received life and joy through each of the situations that God has been putting me in. I look forward to seeing how He will continue to work in the upcoming weeks!

Prayer requests:

  • There are two new kids at the orphanage, a brother and sister. While I don’t have much information on their situation, I know that their living parent was no longer able to take care of them. Pray that they would be shown lots of love during their time here and understand the truth of Jesus!
  • I personally am seeking out discernment and guidance in my life right now! I know God has a lot in store for my future, and I want to be in tune with His will for my life.
