This is part 6 in a series aimed to guide my prayer and prepare me for each unique country I’ll be going to on the World Race. I am flying the coop in 8 short weeks!! Once again, the 11 countries I’ll be serving in are Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Swaziland, Botswana, South Africa, India, Nepal, China and Mongolia.

The Flag of Botswana

Botswana is roughly the size of Texas, with the great Kalahari desert encompassing much of the country (80%). It’s actually one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world.

Botswana gained their independence from Britain in 1966 and has had great political and economic growth since then. They are heavy in mining and the country is led by a stable, multi-party democracy that generously offers complete freedom of religion. Around 70% of the population identifies themselves as Christian, and the remainder are primarily adhering to tribal religion. Most of Botswana is literate and speaks English.

My prayer for Botswana is a sincere and pure faith in the Gospel that radically changes the way the believers in Botswana live. I want more for these people than I’ve ever had. I pray for unity between churches and revival in the homes of Botswana. Most importantly I pray that Jesus would be celebrated in Botswana!!

A World Race team back in 2007 spent their time in Botswana doing prison ministry, working in the abandoned baby nursery, doing Hut to Hut evangelism, speaking about the World Race at the international school, giving classes on abstinence, and doing ATLing (Ask the Lord), which means starting the day in prayer and committing to listen to what the Lord says and minister to people along your path. You can check out some of the neat stories from this team’s time in Botswana here.

I’m so excited to spend some time in Botswana getting to know people and learning about a culture so different from my own. I also hope that I can see my mom for a day since Botswana borders Zambia!
