Our host has given us the opportunity to spend Mondays fully in prayer. This week he gave us a list of things to pray for their staff, his family on mission, and for the community.

On the section for community, he had the word rain written 3 times in a row. Swaziland is in the midst of a drought.

The other prayer requests were topics like “jobs, health, leadership, parents taking more initiative at home”.

And rain, rain, rain.

This got me thinking as we prayer-walked the area. What could a good few days of rain do here?

If it rains, and rains a lot, the fields upon fields of sugar cane and other crops would be watered. The cattle would have access to water and be able to be sustained. Thousand of cattle have died in the drought. Families would have more income from agriculture. A rise in agriculture could create more jobs. Employment and income could lead to more access to healthcare. Access to healthcare, in the long run, could lead to more compete families.

Maybe it’s a long shot, but our God is big. He’s bigger than this drought. And his love for this country is bigger than we could ever imagine. So maybe a few passing showers won’t do much right away, but we will continue to pray boldly for rain in the dry season.

We will continue to pray that the floodgates would open and days of rain would water this country, showing the Swazi people how much the Lord loves them. Literally letting the Father’s love shower over them.

We will pray that neighbors will ask each other “who did you pray to, because this is a lot of rain and whoever sent it must love is us a lot.”

We will continue to pray that the land would be watered by physical rain and that the Swazi people would seek the living water Jesus can offer.

We’ve seen two rain showers since we began praying every day, pray with us that Swaziland would receive the rain they need!
