Hi friends. ๐
I work at a small Christian camp. I have several hats that I put on throughout the summer. One hat is “First Aid” … most of the campers just call me the nurse. Today (Wednesday) was our first full night of camp this season — 3rd & 4th graders get 3 days & 2 nights.
Tonight, about 3 hours before bedtime, the dean’s wife brought all of the kids who take bedtime medicine to me. I explained to her that I really needed to wait until bedtime before giving them their bedtime meds. She was reluctant, but because she knows that I’ve been doing this for a while, she trusted my judgment.
Fast forward 3 hours.
Right before bedtime, I had 8 girls & 1 boy in my office ready to take their medicine. Right as I was finishing up the last girl & getting prepared to walk them back to their cabin, I heard the highest-pitched SCREECH I have ever heard — coming from one of the girls who was waiting to walk back.
I look up from my desk to see a little boy’s face COVERED in blood. He couldn’t even see. I had never seen so much blood in my entire life. I froze. Freaked out a little. (i’m not ashamed to admit that). ANYWAY… just as I was freaking out, the dean’s wife walked in the office to walk the girls back so that I wouldn’t have to make that trip. THANKFULLY, she is a mother of 4 boys & was able to quickly assess the situation & order me around (because I was still frozen from the sight of the boy’s face). We used his shirt to apply pressure, prayed with him, and asked him a bazillion questions to keep him talking & thinking — making sure he was okay … not confused, dizzy, etc when it comes to head injuries.
I was able to take the boy to the ER where he received 9 stitches on the top of his head.
God’s timing?
Let’s recap.
1) The dean’s wife wanted me to give the kids their medicine 3 hours too early. I waited until bedtime. Had I not waited, I would have been in my cabin instead of my office at the time the boy came in bleeding.
2) The dean’s wife came to get the girls even though walking them to their cabin is my job. Had she not come in at that exact time, who knows how long my camper would have been bleeding while I freaked out.
I know that this story isn’t extravagant & most people probably believe that it’s just all coincidence, but I truly believe that God knew what He was doing with HIS timing tonight. I’m so thankful for little victories like this.
I was able to spend a couple hours in the ER with an amazing 8 year old who was the toughest boy in the world — never once did he shed a single tear. The only time he wasn’t calm was when I told him that his dad was coming to pick him up — he freaked out & insisted that he go back to camp with me because he still had a lot of camping to do. ๐
Now that we’re all back at camp safely, it’s finally bedtime. After all, we still have a lot of camping to do. ๐
Peace,
Samantha
