The accommodations at training camp are
somewhat primitive. Be prepared for outdoor showers. Also, be sure you are
prepared for any weather – hot afternoons, cold nights, rain, sleet, snow –
ANYTHING! Though you may think I’m exaggerating, one camp it started at 80
degrees and then dropped to below freezing. Be prepared! You will be properly
equipped if you follow your WR packing list. Be sure you have these items:
- Married Couples – You can bring a tent for the two of you to sleep in so you do not
have to stay in the cabins. - Most of you should bring your tent. There will be some lodging, but
not enough for all participants. This is the best opportunity to try out the
tent you plan to take with you! - All sleeping stuff including a sleeping bag.
- Clothes for the whole time (1 semi casual outfit). Mostly outdoor
activities. AIM dress code applies. Some clothes may be ruined by our
pretty Red Georgia Dirt. Semi casual would be nice jeans and a nice shirt.
- Water bottle, plate and cutlery. Mug if you want hot drinks. (http://www.rei.com/product/765751)
- Towel and shower stuff
- Basic First Aid kit including Mosquito Spray, medicine for stomach
issues, headaches, allergies including seasonal, bug bites, or
nature-caused, band-aids, anti-bacterial wipes and ointment, sunscreen,
and aloe vera. - Headlamp to make your way through the darkness
- Bible, Journal, and Pens…. this is a must for processing!
- Spending money for possible meals out, fun times with your team, or
items to purchase at camp - Laptop for note taking and blogging wouldn’t be an awful thing to
have, but is not absolutely necessary
Many of you have been asking about how
to pack your items. We do ask that you try to bring your pack to Training
Camp. If you want to wait until after Training Camp to purchase a pack, please
borrow one from someone. While not always the cheapest, it’s often good
to purchase major gear items from REI so that if you find out they aren’t right
while at camp, you can return them easily.
