hello friends…found this blog just a few minutes ago from an Aug. 09 racer who is just about finished with the race…I think they have about 17 days left! This is a bit of advice about some of the things she took, things she wish she had taken, and things she wish she’d have left behind!
EQUIPMENT
Stuff I’m glad I brought:
- Sweatpants
- Smith’s Rosebud Salve
- Intuition Razors-enough for the year
- 2 cameras
- Lots of underwear
- External harddrive
- Knee-length shorts
- Normal (non-missionary)skirts
- Movies
- Headbands
- Camp Stove
- 2nd water purifier (yes, I brought 2)
- Keene water shoes
- Extra socks
- All those silly vitamins (Garlic, probiotics, Vitamin C tablets)
- Air mattress (Big Agnes, from REI)
- Messenger Bag Purse (bought in Bulgaria)
- Packing cubes (broke down and bought them in Vietnam)
- Lots of General Medicine (Tylenol, Advil, Excedrin, Benadryl, Nasal Spray)
- Big Pack (Osprey- because it fits my body)
- Tent (needed to spend more- lesson learned: get the tent with a footprint, a rainfly with a zipper flap & LOTS of ventilation)
- Bathing Suit (should have got a cheaper one)
- Camp Towel (needed to spend more- lesson learned: buy the BIGGEST one)
- IPOD (should have bought one, not borrowed- lesson learned: there will be times when this WILL be your sanctuary)
- Card Games (only brought playing cards, phase 10, and uno- ANY more games would have been awesome for months in the bush or on a tech ban)
- Pack for your expected weather (Dad was right)
- Asia’s hotter than Africa
- Tank tops really are ok- BRING THEM!
- Bring some of your cute stuff
- Give it ALL up- it will get ruined, stained, gross.
