Your son or daughter is about to leave the country, maybe for the first time. You are probably wondering when you will hear from them next. Will they contact me via Facebook, email, snail-mail? How will they get in touch with me and how will I know I haven’t missed the opportunity to hear from them? Do I need to find the funds to cover an international phone plan?
If these are questions that have been flooding your mind, allow us to provide a few different options that don’t require international phone plans/charges*. With each of these mobile apps, both you and your Racer will need to have downloaded them onto your phones. All of these apps work off of a wifi connection which can make them more user friendly while traveling abroad.

Viber
This is an app that can be downloaded for free on your phone or other device in order to make calls and text using wifi. This requires less wifi strength to operate and communicate internationally.

What’s App?
This is a popular app for messaging and phone calls via a wifi connection.

FaceTime
Available from one Apple device to another. Allows for video and voice calls with less wifi strength and quality than Skype.

Google Hangouts
Available for those with google accounts/android devices. Works much like FaceTime and iMessage for non-Apple devices.

Skype
This requires better wifi to be able to have both video and voice. While this has been the app of choice in the past, it it not necessarily the most dependable anymore.
