Lately God has been teaching me about the importance of loving the giver more than the gifts. He has shown me that yes he gives us good gifts and good spiritual giftings, but the point is never the gifts themselves but the God who gives them! I think being on the race is so amazing because everyday I am pushed out of my comfort zone and challenged to walk deeper with the Lord in new and sometimes scary ways. For example we do this thing called ATL and no, that is not Atlanta airport. ATL or “ask the Lord” is a time where we are sent out and pray about what God would have us do. This could mean praying for healing, helping someone carry groceries, buying someone a meal, playing soccer with some kids, really anything you feel God calling you to do. And for me coming from a background where we don’t really talk about spiritual gifts too much I feel like I went through a couple phases of thought in this journey. First I thought these people are crazy, then I thought woah, still kinda weird but I want to do that, then I was like okay let’s check and see what the Bible even says about this because I don’t know what to believe right now, then I’m reading in my bible and searching for answers and I’m like shoot okay I can do that because of the Holy Spirit who is in me #thanksGod.
And if you’re reading this and you’re thinking “ great, she’s losing it, Selina is going crazy and a part of a cult now”. Please please please, go find your Bible and read what it says about the gifts of the spirit.
Anyways, so like I was saying, it has been great to learn about these things and see God working through the gifts of the spirit (some examples straight out of scripture: utterance of wisdom, utterance of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, ability to distinguish between spirits, speak tongues, interpretation of tongues. 1 Corinthians 12:4-11). But I do think there is a danger, especially when this is so new and exciting, to get so hyped up about these things that we, without even realizing it, put them on a pedestal that only God should be on. And how much greater is God who gives us these gifts than the gifts themselves. And when we keep God above gifts it ensures that we steward the gifts well and use them as he calls us to. He is such a good father to us and he gives us the perfect gifts and says we lack nothing, so praise and glory be to God! THANKS LORD!
Also if reading this you’re like “what?” Please reach out to me, if you are like “dope I want to know more about that” please reach out to me, if you have any comments or questions or even disagreements I welcome them and would love to hear. Thanks for all the love and support!
