Right before we pulled up to the dump, I prayed in my heart that God would show up and use us. It took all of about thirty seconds. I was sitting on the clothes in the back with Danielle and Aimee. Someone opened the back door for me to get out, and as I stepped out I looked to my right. There stood Marco Antonio, he appeared to be beat up by life and weary. His lips were black from severe chapping and he had an expression of brokenness. I made eye contact with him and he began to speak to me in Spanish. Obviously I couldn’t understand what he was saying, but Christina joined in and translated. Although I could not translate what he was saying, I knew it was an obvious cry for help. As he shared his heart with us, his eye’s watered and his lips began to bleed from the severe chapping. He said, “You are angels that God has sent to me from Heaven”. Although I know I’m not an angel, I do believe God sent Marco to us and He sent us to Marco. Marco then said through teary eyes and bleeding lips that he didn’t want to live like this anymore. He mentioned that someone had offered him alcohol the night before, but he turned it down because he wanted to change. His face reflected an expression of brokenness and his words were words of repentance. He then told us that he lived in a place the size of the back of our van and it was covered by sheets. He told us he froze every night because he had nothing to cover himself with. We spoke back and forth about Jesus and he said Jesus was in his heart. He then spoke of his need to go back to church and Christina told him that God was not just in church, but also here with us right now. We then surrounded him and prayed for him as he cried I just kept hearing him say “thank you God, thank you God” over and over again. As he wiped away tears from his eyes, he then looked up and smiled. I touched his heart and said “peace” and he said Si. This man repented and received a peace beyond his understanding or ours despite his circumstances. He then asked for a Bible, and Javier showed an amazing act of love and kindness as he gave Marco his bible, which was a father’s day gift from his boys. He walked away with two suitcases of clothes, a smile, and peace that could only come from Christ. He was the first of at least five people who I believed God touched on this day. The other four were two boys who put their faith in Christ, Maria, and a man with a cleft pallet. Javier witnessed to the two boys and they said they wanted to put their faith in Christ, so we prayed with them. The next guy had a hard time speaking and it was even harder considering he spoke Spanish. However, when Christina talked to him about God he began to cry. We prayed for him and he walked away. We then gave out more clothes and candy to the kids. Aimee was chasing the kids and spinning them around and I was throwing them in the air and catching them. It was fun, and I was truly proud of everyone on my team and their willingness to be obedient to God.
