Dear Friends and Family,
First of all, I am so thankful for every one of you being a part of my life. I pray that you would receive many blessings because of your endless support for God’s Kingdom. As you may or may not know, I have recently been accepted to the June 2009 team for a program called “The World Race” through the organization Adventures in Missions. I have always felt a tug to serve others around the world and to show them God’s amazing love, but that tug became a heavy burden this past summer. The World Race is an answer to my prayers!
The World Race is a program that sends teams of six people to eleven countries around the world in eleven months. We will be serving the needs of the community we are in, which could be anything from AIDS relief in Swaziland, church planting in China, or working with an orphanage in Guatemala. This is an amazing opportunity for me to search God’s heart for how I can better serve His Kingdom. Through an intense two-week training in April, pre-trip reading and preparation, and creating a bond with my teammates through prayer, God will prepare our bodies, hearts, and minds for this next year overseas.
The reason I am sending this letter to you is not only to inform you of my ministry through the World Race, but it is also to ask you to join me in this ministry through prayer. If we come to God in prayer and thanksgiving, he will not hold back his blessings. I need 10-15 people to commit to praying for me daily for the eleven months I am overseas. Let me know if you feel that God is calling you to join me in this way. Another way God calls the faithful to serve is through finances. I know it would not be possible for me to join this team without your aid. The cost of the trip including food, lodging, travel, medical, and ministry expenses is $16,000, or broken down to $1,455/month. With your help and prayer this amount can easily be met. Luke 6:38 says: “…give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” As I am supplying others with spiritual needs, so you are supplying me with my physical needs. If 5 people pledge to give $100/month, 10 people give $50/month, 20 people give $25/month, 20 people give $15/month, and 20 give $10/month for the 8 months leading up to my departure on June 1, 2009, I will have reached my goal before I even leave on my trip! There is also an option to give a one-time gift. Please seek God for guidance on how you can support me through prayer and/or financial support. I have faith that God will supply me with what is needed while using you in this ministry as well.
I have enclosed a response card and pre-addressed envelope, which invites you to share in this ministry. Please make checks payable to Adventures in Missions. You may write “appealed by” and my name in the memo section of the check if you wish. All donations should be mailed to Adventures in Missions P.O. Box 534470 Atlanta, GA 30353-4470. Including the enclosed card will provide AIM with all necessary information. AIM is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c ) (3) non-profit organization. Donors will receive receipts for their gifts with the understanding that the disbursement of those gifts lies completely at the discretion of AIM and that the gifts are non-refundable and non-transferable per IRS regulations. Gifts may be tax deductible: please consult your tax advisor.
While I am training for our departure in June and for the eleven months my team is out in the world, I will be continually updating a blog. To visit this website and read up on what God is doing through this ministry, as well as give one-time gifts online, please check out http://scottielangston.theworldrace.org. To find out more about the World Race and read the blogs of all the other past, current, and future World Racers, visit www.theworldrace.org.
This opportunity is more than just adventure and excitement, I feel that God has focused me to be dedicated to spreading the love of Jesus Christ and that through this experience God will change and mold me more and more into the woman He wants me to be. This is also an opportunity for you to be changed and molded. Growth through your commitment to support me can be enormous and the payback of blessings will be one hundred fold. Please prayerfully consider supporting and joining me in “making disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:19-20). Thank you so much!
In Christ,
Scottie Langston
