As month 10 has come to a close we head into our final month and I still haven’t gotten sick once!  I haven’t thrown up, been constipated or had diarrhea.  Some people think that it is all luck, but I think that there is more than just luck behind it.  In every country that I have been to on the race I have eaten anything that was put in front of me and I have had the tap water (without filtering it).

The 3 key secrets to not getting sick on the race is…

  1. Eat lots of gummy candy
  2. Eat lots of things with sugar in them
  3. Pray for your food and believe that it is clean.

I think that each of these things have played a role in why I haven’t gotten sick, but the last one is by far the most important.  Every time that I get food or drink water I always pray for it.  But when I pray for it I fully believe that God has his hand on it and will protect me from any bacteria.  There were multiple times in Africa when I would be with a team and the whole team would pretty much be sick from drinking the tap water but when I would try it, nothing would ever happen to me.  In Asia my team would have diarrhea all the time from brushing their teeth with the tap water but once again it never effected me.

The bigger picture of this is that prayer is so important when on the field.  I think that a lot of times we just want the cool story to tell people and then forget to pray and believe for the simple things such as food and water.  We pray for our food during meals but it is so mundane and seems like a chore to many people.  But for me when I’m on the field, praying for my food and water can show God’s presence more than seeking that cool story to tell people.  Trusting God with what seems like the small things in life everyday can turn into a story like I have to share. I have a small but amazing story to share about how everyday God provided for me by protecting my food and water so I didn’t get sick for the first 10 months and counting.
