We were elated as we pulled up to the top of San Cristobal in Lima. After hours of racing we were first. This race was so much fun with 10 different challenges, and we ended on a mountain overlooking Lima. Finally! Team Nessa, after being dead last in the first two legs, we won for the B squad. The A squad was almost all in, but team Agapetos and Zeo were behind us.
In this race, we had eating challenges, physical challenges, had to find all different things. We had to run from place to place, take taxis and buses, ride in a horse drawn carriage around the Plaza Mayor, find a well full of skulls in the catacombs, swim out through the surf in the Pacific and touch a float, then come back in a relay race. We all had to eat our full plate of Anticucho, which is skewered Cow Heart, and run through China Town to find a restaurant and eat Mim pau.
We ran and ran and ran. Forrest Gump would have been proud. Running in my bathing suit. With the mesh liner. Brings back a couple memories. When I was a young and chubby kid, I begged for a mesh or net Patriots shirt. Craig James, number 32. I was so proud of that and thought about how tough I must look. Until one day of activities in that shirt rubbed my nipples raw. Well, after a day of running in my shorts, I think I understand a little how the Israelites felt when they were heading into the promised land and Joshua circumcised them all. But, pain doesn’t hurt so bad with a win.
Then Chad called me over and asked me a couple questions about the race, and we missed one clue, and I took an illegal route, so after all the scoring, Team Nessa was DEAD LAST again. What a let down, we actually had tears on our team.
So now we began the trying not to let it effect us and it was a great day stuff, and we don’t really care about the race, and it felt good to actually be in the race and not already quitting at the beginning…. So it was a good day, but losing still sucks.
