I remember going to watch “The Karate Kid”, I was probably 8 years old. I remember leaving there so pumped, I must have done a hundred (probably less than 10 but you get what I mean) karate kicks in the parking lot on the way to the car, probably got spanked once on the way also. I remember the ‘crane kick’- it could not be defended!
I have piles of ‘christian’ books on my shelves, good reading, very informative. These books have completely changed my views on many things. Paul says we are to renew our minds. I believe it was Tremendous Jones who said (but don’t quote me on it) quote “the difference between who you are now and who you will be in 5 years, is the books you read”. You know, sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character.
One part of “The Karate Kid” that stuck out to me, is Daniel is practicing kicks while looking at pictures in a book. Mr. Miyagi walks in to fix the sink, and tells Daniel- “You can’t learn karate from a book.” Mr. Miyagi then goes and disciples Daniel, and Daniel beats the bad guys and wins the girl.
In my life, I have read so many books, there are so many good books out there. Christian book stores seem to do a pretty good business, I know I have paid some of the rent at our local CBD. But that does not make me a disciple.
I have so much to learn, and think I may have finally bumped into some Mr. Miyagis in my life, its about time! Miyagis, make yourself available, and Daniels, keep looking, eventually you may find someone to show you how it is done.
