I just finished my breakfast of 3 eggs, a piece of toast and 4 fish oil capsules (I hope to write at another time about this miracle food. Almost everyone should be taking their Omega-3’s, fish oil. The research is truly amazing). In an hour I will drive to the gym where I worked and worked out for 4 years before this “World Race” experience. I am going to the Boston Sports Club in Waltham, the same building where the Celtics practice (how did they lose to Charlotte last night?), where I hope to meet the new manager and talk about the options for me to work there.
As I ate my breakfast I read some of the blogs from the current World Racers. One team is in Peru where they are doing some disaster relief in the area that was hit hardest by an 8.0 earthquake. Another team is working in the Philippines, in Manila with the contacts we made a few months ago. It is really exciting to see what they are doing. Check out their blogs at the world race home page: www.theworldrace.org .
Jeff Goins also just posted a blog about the mega church named Willow Creek and some discoveries they are making and how they are re-thinking church.
Adjusting to life here at home has been more difficult for me than I expected it to be. I have also heard from others about how difficult their adjustment has been. One of these difficulties has been trying to fit back into ‘church’. It was difficult to hear the ever present argument in this area about keeping Christ in Christmas. People here say “Happy Holidays” so they won’t chance offending someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus. I hear other christians say “Merry Christmas” to make the point that we are celebrating Jesus’ birthday.
For me, the whole thing makes my head spin. Maybe if we as christians were truly living like Jesus was the ‘reason for the season’ then people wouldn’t be offended by us…but really by our actions we don’t keep Christ in Christmas. Just another RELIGIOUS holiday. Holding candles and singing some song about Jesus being born just to die and it is so gloomy and sacred, and I bet in heaven where Jesus is obviously alive no one sings sad songs.
After that Christmas eve service, I just sat there feeling really unbalanced. It just doesn’t feel right to me, but I have no idea what to do different. What would I do different? Good question…it seems this question is at the forefront of Willow Creek’s agenda though.
Well, I have to take my Met-Rx Super Greens drink, which has something like30 different types of vegetables in it and take my creatine and head down the road to my kettlebell workout with my buddy Hank. I plan on talking more about diet and exercise later…even if it is simply to convince myself to keep it up.
