I love to read the books by Donald Miller. His writing is fun and honest and open and I think so many people relate to his thoughts.
I am currently reading his “To Own a Dragon Reflections on Growing Up Without a Father”, I have already read his “Through Painted Deserts”, “Searching For God Knows What”, and “Blue Like Jazz”. I would suggest these books to everyone.
Donald Miller also runs a non-profit organization called the Belmont Foundation, which exists to provide role models for children growing up without fathers. I don’t know much about this ministry other than what I just wrote, but the website is www.belmontfoundation.org. The idea of the ministry is powerful, though.
I have blogged before that what was most evident to me as we witnessed some of the world’s pain this year is that so much of this pain is present in the absence of a father. My heart is for fathering the fatherless, and for helping other men become the man God already created them to be (as I figure it out myself…process, right?). So this book, “To Own a Dragon” has become another motivator for me.
Donald Miller is also part of a website, www.burnsidewriterscollective.com, that I have just found out about because a blog I wrote has been published on their site.
So maybe Donald Miller has now read something that I wrote? How cool is that?
