Hello, Goodbye: End of Month One

So it is September…where did the month of August go? This past month has been a time of growth, reflection, new experiences, and so much more. I have seen words that people have spoken over my life from even years ago, come to light. God has been working in so many amazing ways.

The time spent in Siaya with the Osundwa family has been a huge blessing. They treated us like family from the beginning, and even though it got a bit crowded with fourteen people in one small house, it was so good to be around the family, serve alongside them, to encourage them, and in turn be encouraged by them.

This last week of being in Siaya seemed to be very different everyday, compared to a more set structure we had most of the month, which I feel was a nice way to end our time here.

On Monday we had the chance to have a day off and travel to the city of Kisumu(the third largest city in Kenya), and meet up with another World Race team. While in Kisumu we had the opportunity to take a boat ride out to lake Victoria(apparently the second largest fresh water lake in the world), and even got to see a group of hippos in the lake.

Tuesday we split up in pairs, and went out to visit some families from Deliverance Church(the church we have worked with all month) and meet with some of the families to pray with them and encourage them. Then later that night my team surprised me by getting me a Birthday cake, which is not very common here in Siaya, so I was very thankful for them honoring me on my birthday.

Also during this day the World Race was doing a video project called WR24, which had all of the teams that are currently around the world record a video of the whatever happened during the 24 hours of August 30, and then want each team to put four minutes of raw unedited footage together, so they can come back and make a film of all the footage that was recorded from the day.

During the end of our final week in Kenya. We also had an opportunity to visit the local hospital and pray over those who were sick. Then that same day went on to cook an American style meal of French Toast for thirty people. This was a great time of fellowship with the many of the people we served with during the month in Siaya.

Though the family we stayed with was sad to see us go, and it seemed like in many ways we were just getting started. I had an amazing first month of the World Race, and I thank the Lord every morning that this is actually my life. I have truly been blessed by the many people we worked with in Siaya, and am now looking forward to see what is in store for our time in Uganda.
