As I'm writing this I have been in China for a week, and due to various reasons had no access to the internet during my time here in China. So far everywhere I have traveled to has not been quiet as expected, and China has been no exception to that, thinking that it would be a lengthy process to cross the border into China, it was actually one of the simplest border crossings we've come across so far.
After spending the night in Ghouazho, we took a bullet train to the city of HengYang where we would be working with an organization called International China Concern(ICC), ICC is a Christian development organization bringing love, hope and opportunity to China’s abandoned and disabled. Founded in 1993 by David Gotts, International China Concern exists to help the disadvantaged live life to the full and to their God-given potential.
Coming into this ministry I had thought I knew what to expect, I had heard some about the ministry, but quickly found out that I really had no idea. I can't go into details to why, though I would like to, what I walked into was a room that smelled of stale urine, vomit, and filth. Thin and tired looking children crying and reaching out, hoping for someone to simply acknowledge their existence, and perhaps even hold them. Moments later walking into another room, this time the children were smiling, warm, and well feed. The distinction was clear, really the question is why? Why is there such a vast difference, in care for children who come out of similar circumstances and with similar backgrounds. Whatever the case, for me it showed how very important the ministry of ICC is to the community of Heng Yang.
