I am a movie junkie.  I could go to a movie theater every day, get some popcorn with extra butter, a nice cold soda and occasionally some sour patch kids.  This would make for a happy life for me.  Ya see, my favorite part about movies is how they build up and flow together.  In order for this to happen, there are many transition scenes.  An overhead view of a city, panning through a ghetto neighborhood, or catching the glow of the moon off the reflection of a rain covered street.  Without these scenes, the movie would just be a rushed mess.  Which reminds me a lot of life.

We all go through transition periods.  We all have great times, awful times, and the in betweens.  I think a lot of us fail to recognize these in betweens, or transitions, as build up for what’s next.  We don’t always see them as times in our lives where God is trying to teach us and prepare us or what is coming.  For the most part we go from day to day, doing the basic things to get by while being rather indifferent about the moments in our lives.

What if we opened our eyes and hearts?  What if we payed a little more attention instead of just constantly filling our lives with things and people?  What if what we would normally look at as a normal experience was actually an experience God wanted to use to show us something?

This happened to me a couple weeks ago.  I went to the movies with a few squad mates.  All I knew about the movie was that it was an action movie with Denzel in it, so obviously it was a must see.  I had no idea it was even about prostitution or trafficking.  I didn’t go to the movies that night to have my passions about fighting injustice stirred back up, i was just trying to enjoy a night off with my friends. However, I have no doubt God knew I would leave that theater pissed off because Hollywood is making money off of movies about real problems.  Prostitution and human trafficking just get thrown on a screen for our entertainment instead of something actually getting done about the problem.  I left that night ready to come straight home and get involved in ministry working with women in prostitution.  But, what I have to realize is God is still growing and preparing me for what’s next.

We can’t rush or wish our way through our transition periods.

Even a god thing at the wrong time can be a bad thing.

It’s kind of like cooking.  The recipe God has created for your life still takes preparing before it can be enjoyed.  So let God prepare you.  Seek Him in every season of your life.  When you’re living out your dreams, when your world seems to be falling apart, and during all the seemingly normal days in between.  It is possible that in those everyday, mundane times, God is preparing you for what’s next.
