It was a street market in Bolivia where my first personal, insane World Race moment happened.

Looking through the shops, the beautiful Ana Kempner and I found a jewelry stand and to our amazement, there was a sign that said “perforaciones y piercings!”
So after a few seconds of deciding and asking about how the lady would sterilize everything,
we bravely decided to pick out our nose rings.

Who needs an actual piercing shop?

Being the pansy that I am, I chose to go first so I wouldn’t back out.  I sat down on a little stool, handed the lady my nose ring with shaky hands, held on to Ana, and listened to the encouragement from my team!  Unlike in America, here in Bolivia they use this amazing thing called anesthetic for piercings. With a newly opened sterile needle, she numbed my nose (the pinch stung and was actually the worst part.) Then, without a piercing gun or anything, her fingers went
up my nose and she pushed the jewelry right through!

Luckily all I could feel was the pressure from the force of her push.  After about 3 minutes and a solid amount of blood, it was all over and I was so excited about it.

I held Ana’s hand as she went through her own similar experience and am super pumped we got them done together.  We paid a total of 30 Bolivianos ($4.50), also a perk to street vs shop!  Salmo 45:11 now has 4 nose rings and we have 9 months to talk the other two into it. 😉
