This past month in Guatemala I have witnessed more love than I could have ever expected. From a teammate taking the shoes off of her feet to give to a man without, to coming home to sweet notes on my bed, love has been so evident. Through seeing all this loveee happenin’ around me, God has been opening my eyes to more opportunities to love those around me with a sacrificial love.
My team has continually showed me what sacrificial love looks like on a real and day-to-day basis. It’s keeping the room clean because they know others thrive in a clean space. It’s getting up early on a Saturday to take an hour bus ride to the city so Shekinah can get her hair done. It’s massaging coconut oil masks in each others hair. It’s hugs when you’re not a physical touch person, being interruptable at all times and encouraging one another even when you are having a bad day.
So, on this topic, I am going to FINALLY introduce the lovely ladies of team Tribe! How fitting is it to write about the very woman who have shown me what it really means to love with a selfless and generous love!!! Although I will try my very best, these words can never describe just how much these girls mean to me and how much they have impacted me and my walk with the Lord!!!
Brittany–
The most out-going, genuine, and dedicated friend. She will sit with people for hours just to make sure they feel seen, known and loved. Brittany encourages people to live a life full of happiness. She creates deep relationships with anyone and everyone she meets and pours so much of herself into her community. She is a woman after Gods heart. She is willing to earnestly seek more of Him and ask the hard questions. Brittany brings an energetic energy into every room she walks into and the Spirit of joy is apparent through her smile alone.
Shekinah–
A woman of wisdom. If you’re feeling discouraged she will throw quoted scripture at you. She leads our team with grace and vulnerability. Shekinah has a passion for story telling and a gift for capturing them in both words and photos. She walks out her faith in boldness and gratitude. She expects the best from people and always seeks to understand. Shekinah encourages those around her to speak words of life and point one another back to scripture. She walks out her faith everyday and it is evident through the way that she carries herself.
Milena–
A woman who is for ALL people! She pushes people to be the best version of themselves and she helps them get there. Milena is always down for a deep conversation about how the Lord is working, but also always down for a dance party. She is definitely the weirdest person I have ever met, but her humor brings a space of vulnerability and airiness into every conversation. She rolls with the punches and finds joy in all situations. Milena is willing to sit with people in the dark, but she will always leave them with light to rest in.
Cat–
When she speaks, people want to listen. She walks in the God given authority that she has because she knows her inheritance. Cat is quick to notice ways that people can grow and she is willing to have hard conversations to make those things known to them. She brings a new perspective in all situations. She lets us into her emotions so that we can love her best. Cat always knows what to say, whether that is sitting with someone and saying nothing at all, or being their hype girl.
I can not imagine doing this thangg with any other group of girls. I cherish every single moment with them and I thank God everyday that He blessed me with these sisters.
Below is my favorite song at the moment, it is kinda sorta relevant to the rest of this blog. These lyrics are similar to my prayers lately. They capture how I wait in expectancy for God to continue to mold my heart to reflect more of His heart. It is simple, yet beautiful.
After all, all that we do without love means nothing.
Want- Birdtalker
I don’t wanna have feet of stone.
I want to follow this river of life, where it will have me go.
I don’t want to have a dagger tongue.
I don’t want my words to be a weapon, but a healing balm.
I don’t want to have a heavy mind.
I don’t want to hold these thoughts that are chains of iron.
I want to have eyes of love.
Count the beggars life precious as my own.
Offer my back for my brothers load.
I want to have eyes of love.
