This month looks a little different than other months on the Race. We have no set ministry, no teams, no feedback, no nothin’. Expect a few rules and the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit. Woo! With that, there is a lot more freedom with my days. I can choose to do ministry or choose to stay in bed. It’s up to me. This gives me and my squad the opportunity to make transitioning home a little easier.
This past wednesday night I was getting ready for
bed and was just asking the Lord what he wanted me to do the next day. He clearly said, “go evangelize at the Coral Mall.” I thought to myself, okay cool… I know that is the Lord because I rarely think to go out and evangelize. The next morning rolls around and now I just have to find someone to accompany me to the mall (World Race buddy system to keep us safe). I find my girl Marissa and she says yes almost immediately. I can always count on her 🙂 we plan to leave in the next hour so I go seek some silence to spend those next 60 minutes with the Lord.
Before going out, I like to see what the Lord has. I usually ask these questions, “what do you have for this time Lord? Is there someone or a sign or color that will lead me to the person you have for me to talk too?” When I asked this, I heard Him say, “the man in the blue shirt”
My next question was, “okay, can you give me a visual so I know for sure”
His reply, “just go and I will guide you”
I spent the next little bit reading my bible and singing a few worship songs. And y’all that really filled me up before we left. You can ask anyone, I was just jacked on the Holy Spirit yesterday!
We headed out and were ready to see where the Lord would lead us. Marissa, myself, and my girl Sisay ended up coming along too. I explained to them what God had told me that morning and gave them some time to prayerfully seek out the Lord themselves. To see if He had anything for them as well. They said no, so we headed out in search of the man in blue. Y’all, I’m not kidding every man in that mall was wearing blue ** … this is when I really had to seek the Lord for his guidance. I was drawn to one man so I stepped up and asked him if knew any English. He didn’t so we thanked him and moved on.
** in times like this, I just talk to the first person that my eye is drawn too. I believe that God is leading me in these moments so he obviously drew my eye to that person for a reason.
We headed upstairs to the food court. I counted 10 men wearing blue. LOL but one man caught my eye. He was my man in blue. His name is Franklin. He was sitting alone and we just walked up and asked him if we could sit and chat. He said yes! And he spoke English. I was not really expecting what happened in that next hour. He told us a little about himself and we told him about ourselves. I explained that we were missionaries, then I was just upfront about how God had led me to him that day. We shared the Gospel with him. We shared how we each had personal relationships with Jesus because in the Dominican everyone is ‘christian’ but not everyone knows Jesus personally. He then had questions on how to have a personal relationship with Jesus. We told him that he first had to accept Christ into his heart, then we dove into what it looks like to pray and read your bible.
After about 20-30 minutes I asked him a simple question. “Franklin, do you want to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior today? Do you want that personal relationship with Him?” He replied with so much joy, “yes! Yes I do. I want that.” I asked him a few more questions about what he believed to make sure he was really making this decision and knew what that meant. Then I prayed an acceptance prayer and he repeated after me. When we looked up, Sisay was crying and so was Franklin!!! Y’all. My man in blue accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior in the food court of the Coral Mall. And because Jesus is so good I got to be there for it!!!
Wowza. Thank you Jesus for allowing us to come alongside you, to witness the continual pursuit of your children, and the joy that comes with asking You to come into our hearts. Jesus is the real MVP here.
Next time Jesus asks you to do something you maybe don’t love doing, I dare you to step out in faith. You never know what He will allow you to witness.

With love and SO MUCH EXCITEMENT,
Sav
