Expectations

That’s a loaded word, isn’t it? Expectations. It encompasses all of your thoughts, your anxieties, your worries, your excitement, your disappointment. So. What are my expectations?

  • I expect to have my heart broken on a regular basis
  • I expect to be shown love I’ve never really experienced
  • I expect to love people who may want nothing to do with me
  • I expect to be hot
  • I expect to resign to a constant state of sweatiness
  • I expect to get heat-induced migraines at least twice a week (but that’s okay; Excedrin ftw!)
  • I expect to have my eyes truly opened to the state of the world
  • I expect to have very little time on my computer
  • I expect to get tired of airplanes and airports REALLY quick
  • I expect to experience the joy of God, not just in my life, but in others
  • I expect to love orphans, widows, prostitutes, and victims
  • I expect to share my testimony…a lot
  • I expect to lead at some point on the race…and I’m not a leader, I’m a follower, but that’s why I think that may come my way
  • I expect to learn more about the bible, about God, and about the way He moves than I ever thought possible
  • I expect to take lots of pictures
  • I expect to put together a video once/month for each country
  • I expect to be able to make a couple of videos/month specifically for my church
  • I expect to be in uncomfortable situations
  • I expect to have zero alone-time
  • I expect to love my squad and my teammates
  • I expect there to be confrontations
  • I expect that we will overcome them
  • I expect there to be changes to the route, and I expect that it will probably break my heart
  • I expect to miss my family and friends like crazy
  • I expect to long for “normal”
  • I expect to get sick
  • I expect to be healed
  • I expect to see others healed through the Holy Spirit in a very tangible way
  • I expect to change a lot of lives; I also expect my life to be completely changed
  • I expect to become more patient and compassionate
  • I expect that I won’t want to do this some days
  • I expect there will be days when I seriously consider going home
  • I expect to get tired of 24/7 community….I also expect that I will learn to embrace it
  • I expect to have adventures I’d never get the opportunity to have anywhere else
  • I expect long bus rides in cramped spaces
  • I expect to be scared and anxious
  • I expect to eat really strange food; I also expect to carry garlic salt with me just in case I need to coat some flavor
  • I expect to lose some weight
  • I expect to build some kind of building for a community
  • I expect to sleep in my tent more often than not
  • I expect to go stargazing with my teammates
  • I expect to find my calling
  • I expect to cry…a lot
  • I expect to fully appreciate my lot in life
  • I expect to be able to skype home
  • I expect to blog AT LEAST once a week
  • I expect to keep a journal that I write in every day
  • I expect that I’ll take too many clothes
  • I expect to take God out of the box I so often put Him in

Well there ya go! I could probably go on and on, but those are the first things that come to mind. I keep hearing that the best expectation to have is to have no expectations…but that’s impossible isn’t it?

Love! <3
