The birth of my first niece, Evangelyn Mirahna (early morning Thursday) had me in awe over how amazing God is. How amazing life is. I’m astounded that a bundle of cells could develop into this tiny, baby girl. It is absolutely amazing. What is even more amazing is the love; the tangible love that you feel for this little person you don’t even know. I met her before she was even 24 hours old and I loved her. I don’t know what she will be like or what her personality will be like, but I know I love her. I loved her before she was even born. I loved her when she was simply an idea. A wish. A prayer my sister and her husband had been sharing with God since they were married two years ago. I can only imagine how much they love her. It’s a kind of love you just can’t put into words. I see it in their eyes when they look at her and talk to her. And that’s amazing
Then I think about God’s love and how his love is magnified. He loves me, His creation, so much more than I’d ever be capable of loving my niece or my nephew or my godson or even my own mother. He loves YOU so much more than you are capable of loving another person. Even the love between a parent and their child is just a mere grain of sand compared to the love God has for us. It’s almost unthinkable. Unimaginable. Unfathomable. But that doesn’t make it any less true.
His word shows us Papa’s love:
Then the Eternal One passed before him. The Eternal God, full of compassion and mercy, slow to anger, and abundant in loyal love and truth… Exodus 34:6
Abundant in loyal love. Love that does not waver. Love that will be ever-present.
Your love, O Eternal One, towers high into the heavens. Even the skies are lower than your faithfulness. Psalm 36:5
Higher than the heavens. Lower than the skies. The skies and the heavens extend beyond our atmosphere into space, of which we can not even measure the vastness.
Because of this, the love of God is a reality among us: God sent His only Son into the world so that we could find true life through Him. This is the embodiment of true love: not that we have loved God first, but that He loved us and sent His unique Son on a special mission to become an atoning sacrifice for our sins.1 John 4:9-10
Imagine that kind of love. It is a kind of love we could never hope to possess. God is love. He gives that love freely to those who want it.
Just have faith…and ask.
