This is a country that was plagued by Communism for over 40 years, until the 1990's when they broke free of that and started a multi-party government system. This has proven to be a difficult chore because the country is so poor that it is like digging yourself out of a 50 foot hole in the ground.
There is an estimated 3,011,405 people that populate this country; of which an estimated 70% are Muslim, 20% are Albanian Orthodox and 10% are Roman Catholic; but because of their Communist background all churches and Mosques were closed in the 60's and the country started allowing private religious gatherings in the early 90's, which means that there is no real accuracy in these numbers.
Their median age is about 30 years old, and their standard of living is extremely poor. Combine that with terribly dreary weather and you have a recipe for a depressed night mare.
So as you can see, Albania is a place that is in desperate need of God's love and joy. Now I am not saying that I am the only person, in the world that is capable of taking God's love to these people; but I am saying that He has placed that call on my heart. He has guided me here, and provided for every step of the way. I have complete faith that He is going to continue to provide, but I think that He is so ready to use people outside of me to make this happen. You see, I have 9 days to come up with $1,500.00 or there is a chance that I will not make it to Albania.
So I have a proposition!!
If you, your family, your friend group, your sunday school class, or even your Bible study group make a $100.00 donation before April 1st, I will send you a post card from Albania!
If you make a $150.00 dollar donation by April 1st I will send you a postcard and a trinket from the local market.
And if you make a $200.00 donation by April 1st I will send you a postcard and a trinket from all three of our European countries; Albania, Romania, and Bulgaria!
