This week has been another week full of moving rocks and being really dirty, but it was such a good week.
We spent our time up in the mountains of Honduras at a farm owned by Theresa, a missionary that works with a pretty intense gang and has a strong desire to feed orphanages, missionaries, and the poor by building a Tilapia Pond and raising the fish for food. Her land was beautiful and we spent the week digging up rocks of all shapes and sizes from the Earth’s surface, rolling them down the to where the pond will be, using them to build a dam, and covering it with poop infested mud.
Our time with Theresa has definitely been interesting. She was always sharing her wisdom, love, and yucca chips; but yesterday got a little crazy!!
We left Denny’s at our normal time to head out to the farm when Theresa hit a bump in the road and something under the truck went wrong which led to this crazy grinding sound; but it happened right in front of a mechanic shop! Things couldn’t be more perfect…or so we thought!
I was in the other car, talking when we heard Theresa start yelling, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!”
I turned to see what was going on and I saw the truck moving backwards and two men lying underneath it. The Honduran man was the person that I best saw and he was rolling as fast as he could, but the truck was moving just as fast and it was the most terrifying thing that I think I have ever seen with my own two eyes!
He finally made it out from under the truck and somebody in the cab got to the brake with no injuries! A few of us that sort of know Spanish were able to go and speak with the man and just share how much Jesus loves him and then pray for him. He was so nice, and a believer too!
It was definitely a scary moment, and I truly hope to never witness such a thing again; but it was so incredible to see how God’s hand was in all of it. When talking to the people in the rolling truck they said that before Theresa got out of the car she put on the emergency brake and everything, but told them that if the truck started rolling to get to the brakes as soon as possible. Alyssa, the girl that got to the breaks, said that she didn’t even know what happened, but that the Holy Spirit took over and then next thing she knew her foot was on the brakes.
Yesterday could have been a terribly tragic day, but God is so good and He is so full of love and protection for us that it was an incredible day! I’m not really sure how anybody can deny His love and power…or even His existence.
