We spent month three in Guatemala, and in that place God spoke something so exciting to my heart. As I prayed and asked God what our purpose in being there was I watched one of our contacts sons plant a seed, He told me that He was planting seeds of righteousness for widows and for orphans in my heart. As you can imagine, I was stoked about that! I mean God gave me a vision for a children’s home many years ago, and now He is adding onto it. He has huge things in store for me!!
Now fast forward to the present time. It is the end of month six and God has been doing such an incredible amount within my heart that it blows my mind! The one thing that I have disliked about this month has been the manual labor, raking fields, moving wood, cleaning dorms, and pulling weeds. Lately my favorite task has been pulling weeds, but today God used it to communicate something special to me.
Earlier in the week four of us walked into a garden that was totally overgrown by weeds. I couldn’t tell which plant was a weed and which plant was a plant because the weeds were everywhere!! That didn’t stop us though, the ground was dry and we got to work. We were pulling weeds left and right with a smooth but strong pull, and after several hours of work, music, and great conversation that garden was really shaping up, you could even see rows of veggies. However, our work wasn’t finished; we still had a lot to do.
After that day the weather got pretty nasty, which led to really muddy grounds, so finishing our project was delayed until today. After breakfast we made our way out to the somewhat shaped up garden and began pulling weeds out of the muddy ground. This proved to be quite the challenge. The wet soil held onto the roots of the weeds extremely tight, which led to us ripping the top parts of the weeds from the root. In order to get the root and all out of the muddy surface it really took some gentle but firm coaxing, but that didn’t always work either. After a few hours of work we finally completed the job that was set before us; we recognized what was wanted and what was unnecessary and we removed the unnecessary plants from the wanted plants to allow more space and nutrients for the wanted plants to really grow into what they were meant to be.
As we were pulling away today God really spoke to me about the things that He is doing in my heart. He said, “Hey Savannah, remember those seeds of righteousness I told you about in Guatemala? I have been working to pull all of the weeds that are growing around those plants, and it’s been really good. The weeds that we are getting to now are a little tougher to pull because you have been supporting them, and your heart is holding onto them. But I will pull them; it just might affect more of you than the first weeds that I pulled did. I need you to do your part though and I need you to stop watering these weeds. This is going to be done, and when I am done with you, you will be ready for great things.”
WOW!!!
God is showing me so much about myself. He is revealing parts of me that don’t reflect who He is, and it is high time that I allow Him to pull that crap out. I don’t need them anymore.
