When we came to Europe we thought that the weather would be quite nice. You see, it is supposed to be springtime. But no…it’s freaking hot here!! Like 100 degrees hot! And to top it all off we are doing really hard manual labor–again. I mean I haven’t sweat this much in fo’eva!!
As we have trudged through this month I have had one consistent thought…I just want to play with kids!! I want to play with kids so bad, but the village that we are living in doesn’t really appear to have many of them hanging around. But yesterday we got a nice little surprise!
Matthew, the Scottish missionary that we have so loved hanging out with this month spends some time every Saturday afternoon hanging out with the kids in the village. Yesterday he invited us along! As we walked along the street to meet them all at the church I could literally feel my skin melting off of my body…it was gross! We go to the church and chatted it up with the kids while having some delicious cake and apple soda until our world was rocked!!!
We are going to go outside and play some water games…okay?
We made our way to the park with buckets, water pistols, really big spunges, and a few water balloons. Before we knew it we were all drenched and laughing as we ran through the park splashing each other with ice cold spring water. We had fun, the kids had fun, and we all got to take a much needed break from the sweltering heat!
Cake was had, laughter spread through the park, water was splashed, and Jesus showed up…all because two men from Scotland have made it a point to love these kids every week. Short term missions is fun and extremely beneficial, but I can't wait until the day comes that I get to be in a place for more than a minute.
