You swaddle her in a fuzzy pink blanket as you prepare to leave the hospital.
You teach her how to say “mama” and “dada.”
You take her to her first day of school, she cries, you cry.
You let her run through the sprinklers and watch as she says “Mom, watch me!” for the thousandth time.
You teach her how to ride a bike.
You take her to her first dance practice.
You watch her perform in her first school play.
You don’t want these moments to end- your little girl is growing too quickly.
You chaperone her first middle school “dance.”
You watch as she hops out of the car on her first day of high school.
You listen to her as she cries over her first heartbreak.
Then, without warning, your daughter vanishes- never to be seen again.
Abducted and forced into sex-trafficking.
It happens every day to young girls across the world.
“Beautiful girl, please be my wife.”
“She can have the shirt for free if you let me take her with me tonight. I’ll bring her back in the morning.”
“How much for the girl standing beside you? I’ll give you good price.”
This is real.
It’s time for the silence to stop.
It’s time for women to be valued as more than an object for SEX.
Walking down the street of a market in Nepal seemed pretty normal until I saw the red lights ablaze. My stomach churned at the sight. In the middle of the day women are being used for sexual pleasure.
This is real.
It’s time for the silence to stop.
It’s time for women to be seen as more than an object for SEX.
Every day, young girls are sold by their families because they need money.
Every day, young girls are being taken advantage.
Every day, young girls start believing that their worth is based on the sexual acts they perform.
Every day, young girls lose their innocence- not by choice.
This is real.
It’s time for the silence to stop.
It’s time for women to be seen as more than objects for SEX.
Every day in America women are being taken advantage.
Every day men go to Mexico to traffic young girls into America.
Every day in America sex trafficking is hush-hush.
This is real.
It’s time for the silence to stop.
It’s time for women to be seen as more than objects for SEX.
Just like men, women were created in the image of God; making them just as valuable as men. Yet, women across the world are not seen as valuable, they are seen as pieces of meat, as mere objects.
Society has painted such a tainted picture of worth. In America it’s the media- saying, “You must look a certain way in order to have worth.” “You must have sex before a certain age or people will not accept you.”
Dear Women and Young Girls,
At times it may not have seemed like you were loved- whether from your dad or your boyfriend. You are/were loved by the creator of the universe. YOU ARE WORTHY. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. YOU ARE LOVED. If any man in your life has taken advantage of you, he/they owe you a sincere apology. You are more than what society has portrayed. You are more than a rag-doll, more than an object, more than a piece of meat. BELIEVE it. Don’t let men take advantage of you. Don’t give away something so precious- so he can feel good. It’s NOT worth it! Women were created to be adored, not trampled.
Dear Men,
You owe women an apology. We are worth more than sex. We are worth more than being treated like objects- as pieces of meat.
Being in the most sex-trafficked place in the world (Nepal) has made the reality of sex-trafficking that much bigger. It is not something that should be treated lightly. Every day, young girls are forced to do things they don’t want to do- losing their self-worth, losing their dignity.
You may not think you can do anything about what is happening in the world- but you can. USE your VOICE that GOD has given you and talk to others about what is happening.
With one VOICE at a time we can END IT.
It all starts with making a choice to voice!!
