On Friday night, some of us hopped onto an overnight bus to hang out in the capitol, Phnom Penh on Saturday.
Arrived at 5 am.
Walked 2 miles to Krispy Kreme. Ate way too many donuts.
Went to the Aeon mall.
Ate Dominos Pizza for lunch.
Went to Starbucks that was playing Christmas music and had all the Christmas decorations up.
Went to another version of the same mall 30 minutes away.
Ate AUNTIE ANNES. For some reason I’ve wanted a soft pretzel since I left home. Thanks God.
Went to the movies. Watched the Grinch. Experienced the coldest A/C of my life.
Went to a freaking great Mexican restaurant.
Got Coldstone to top off a terrible day of eating.
Pretty much ran 2 miles back to bus station to ensure we wouldn’t get left behind.
Hopped back onto the overnight bus and arrived back home at 3 am.
I really love adventure days. This one consisted of about a million consumed calories, a little taste of Christmas, and walking what felt like 100 miles. But at the end of the day, I have found much more contentment in the simple life. Indulging in all the American chain foods and spending the day shopping in a mall is fun but overrated. It was something I didn’t realize I spent way too much time doing at home til I came on the Race. Shopping with friends was like an every weekend thing and I cared way too much about materialistic things. I just let it consume a lot of my free time rather than seeking long lasting memories and things that glorified God. Now, I find a lot more enjoyment doing simple things with good company, exploring and trying new things. Food and shopping is like an outlet I created to fix problems, a quick momentary satisfaction. But now these things don’t have as much value in my life, since the Lord has already provided me with everything I need to be content.
It was a really great day and I am so blessed to hold onto these memories, but I’m glad I get to come home to a simple lifestyle and keep my eyes fixed on things above.
