My mom is one of my best friends, we spend a lot of our time together when I’m back in the states. For the past 7 months, FaceTime calls and short texts have had to do. Last week my mom got to spend 5 days on the field with me! I’ve been anticipating this week for quite some time so when it finally became a reality it didn’t even feel real. We got to spend the week catching up, doing ministry, going on adventures and exploring the city. Here’s how our week went:

Sunday- All of the parents arrive!  We hung out and had worship.

Monday- A full day of ministry for Mom and I. We spent the morning doing prayer walking: a combination of evangelism, praying and house visits. We went with a local named Mario who translated for us, and we prayed for anybody we came in contact with on the streets. At one point we got to share the gospel with a man who had never heard of the love Jesus has for him. It was so awesome to walk alongside my mom and see her take leaps of faith and walk in so much boldness. After lunch, we built a chair! These chairs are scattered all over our wrap around porch on the farm. My mom was thriving at this and it was so cool to see her love this kind of work.

Tuesday- Our full free day. We got to take a boat ride out on Lake Nicaragua and tour some of the little islands with historical backgrounds. We also got to feed some monkies! We got lunch, shopped, and climbed into a cathedral with a beautiful view at the top. We had corporate worship and a movie night.

Wednesday- Half Day. This morning we went to the dump to give a message and a meal. The work conditions of these individuals is truly heartbreaking, as they work long, dusty days picking through trash thats already been picked through twice, trying to find anything to make money off of. Some have been working here for over 10 yrs. Afterwards, Mom and I had the rest of the day free so we went out to lunch and had really good conversation. We had a healing night where we would pray over anyone who needed physical, spiritual or emotional healing.

Thursday- All Squad Adventure Day. We hopped in the bus around 8:30 for a long day of adventures. First we went to the active Masaya Volcano. Afterwards we went to the most beautiful lake- Apoyo de Laguna. We spent the afternoon hanging out by the water and soaking in out last moments with the parents. We had our last worship session and had a feet washing ceremony.

I am unbelievably blessed to have the mother I do. She is one of the biggest reasons I am even here today as she introduced me to the Father’s love and never allowed me to go a day without experiencing it. She knows just what I need when I need it and it meant the world to me that she sacrificed her time this week to invest in mine and others lives. Love you Mom!
