I’ve had a lot of people ask what I’m allowed to bring/brought with me on the field SO here we go :

what’s in my backpack?!

though some of these items I will undoubtedly find unnecessary and ditch halfway through the race, here is an incredibly in-depth description of what I anticipate myself needing next year for future racers and friends/family alike!

P.S. we did get a lot of guidance for recommended/necessary gear like tents & sleeping bags & dress codes while at training camp but other than that, what we bring is whatever we are willing to carry and can keep under 40 lbs!

In the 70L:

AIRPORTER – keeps your pack from getting completely destroyed in all the plane transfers and makes sure the things clipped to the outside don’t fall off!

TENT & POLES & FOOTPRINT – REI brand (half dome plus); some racers use these 5/9 months and some don’t touch theirs at all, completely depends on the location of ministry!

LANTERN & HEADLAMP – necessities

MEDS – allllll the goods

~ Advil

~ malaria pills

~ motion sickness

~ pepto bismol

~ alergy meds

EXTRA ZIPLOC BAGS – these are super duper helpful for organizing little things you accumulate along the way

SLEEPING MAT & SHEET – Big Agnes Q-core and thermarest fitted sheet ; hoping to reduce the synthetic feel as much as possible by bringing a fitted sheet to go over the air mattress!

SLEEPING BAG & LINER – NEMO sleeping bag and a cotton sea to summit sleeping sack ; it is highly recommended to bring a sleeping sack because most places will be too warm to sleep in your sleeping bag!

ENO HAMMOCK & LIGHTS – pro tip : eno lights string around your tent perfectly and provide nice lighting for a #boujee worldrace experience

CLOTHES – (all packed into REI packing cubes)

~ 2 tank tops

~ 4 short sleeve

~ 2 long sleeve

~ 1 Patagonia fleece

~ Rain jacket

~ 3 joggers

~ One pair of jeans

~ 3 pairs of shorts

~ One long skirt

~ One mid length dress

~ 5 pairs socks (2 cozy pairs)

~ 20 pairs underwear

~ 8 bras (5 sports bras, 3 regular)

SHOES – chacos, birks, tennis shoes, vans

TOILETRIES – just the essentials plus nail polish to swap with my teammates and a lil make up for when I wanna spice things up

CHRISTMAS NALGENE – I filled a Nalgene to open at the halfway mark (Christmas) with some fun lil things I knew I’d run out of ; febreeze, body spray, hairbands, crystal light packets

ART STUFF – BRING a comfort thing! I brought some paint tubes & brushes from home for when I miss normal habits

ADAPTERS – good deals on these at Target

In the Daypack : (a 29 L North Face Borealis)

LAPTOP – MacBook, almost everyone on my squad is bringing theirs for blogging and saving photos and such

CAMERA – Canon Rebel T6

CHARGERS – phone, laptop, camera

SEWING KIT – a highly recommended product from past world racers

BABY WIPES & DEODORANT & MINTS – so ya don’t feel disgusting if your flight gets delayed and you spend a night at the airport

BIBLE

JOURNALS (2)

COLORED PENS – doodling

LIL PHOTO BOOK –

LETTERS FROM HOME – :’)

UKELELE – goooood pastime for layovers

THERMAREST PILLOW – good to keep with ya for travel, also serving as my normal pillow

Some extra things :

Passport photos for visas

Copies of passport, ID, credit cards – in case you lose any of them, this makes the replacement process much easier

Slim Around the neck travel purse – to keep important documents near me & prevent them from being pickpocketed

CARIBEANERS!! these are so so handy to clip things to the outside of your pack/daypack

Extra batteries
