I’ve had some people ask how fundraising is going, so I wanted to write a little bit about it and what I’m starting to see through this subject of more than money.
At the table of fundraising we’ve got words like: fear, hesitancy, doubt, maybe excitement, trust, the word “overwhelmed” is laid out, question marks skewed all over and little sentences like “God you know,” “God I trust you,” “God how?” “God what do I do?” and so on. Just a big table of unorganized questions, emotions and faith.
Along with this table of words, I’m starting to see the pre-race journey in a similar light to a woven tapestry throw blanket. Those blankets that have different woven pictures on each side with the 2-toned fringe along the outer sides. I love these blankets and always fiddle with the fringe to untangle and smooth them out. Sometimes I’ll accidently pull a strand of fringe too far and watch the little empty trail it leaves behind as it separates from the weave.
The woven strands are the blanket. In the same way, the prayers and financial support from you, are the strands that will weave an image of what’s to come. I’m not sure exactly what the picture will be, but I think it will be a beautiful mixture of people, heartache, pain, love, mercy, Jesus, His kingdom and the gospel.
You can’t have a blanket without thread and this journey can’t be woven apart from God and you all. Your contributions are forming an image now- to be carried into each country, each muddy street, each beautiful shore line, each home and each gospel conversation with the souls we’ll meet. I imagine talking to people with this hypothetical blanket in my lap and glancing down with warmth to see the people back home. Looking down and seeing the strand of Leigh Ann, Bump, my mom and dad, the Beddingfields, Chuck and Merce, Megan and Mitch, Heather, Hannah, Amy, Carol and Jerry, Lynn, Esther, my grandparents and on and on. Carrying you all with me, knowing I am linked in spirit and love.
The word that keeps coming up in the process of fundraising is “abundance.” I think fear and faith bring abundance. In fear thinking “no way” and in faith seeing Him answer and only being able to give praise. He is good and He came to give life and give it abundantly.
