The other morning I found myself thinking back to comforts and joys I once had back home. I listed them out to see what once was compared to what the Lord is showing me now about current comforts.

Once was:

A blanket and couch

A hot shower that lasts at least 10 minutes

Freedom to go where you please

Food prepared the way you like

A soft pillow and warm duvet

Toilet paper that can be flushed

In access and ability

In friends and family

In driving with your music playing

In a washing machine and dryer

In drawers and a closet

Most of the list above are all “things,” but now I’m finding moments of sweet comfort in the life and shared experiences that happen all around me. Things like this:

Nailing down how to play a game with the kids

Laughing around the dinner table

Getting in the groove of peeling vegetables

Huge windows with tons of natural light

Coming together as a team to unwind

Jumping around and dancing with kids

Praying with one another

A really warm sleeping bag

Success in saying a phrase or question in Spanish correctly

Laughing when you say it wrong

Getting hugs from little ones

A really still and quiet morning to be with the Lord

This year my days will look very different and change very quickly. Quicker than I realized. I’m not relying on my temporary monthly homes to bring me joy, but on the gracious kindness that God has shown me and continues to show me every day.

We leave Bogota on Saturday and make our way to Quito Ecuador! Please pray for safe travels and smooth transitions into a new month of ministry.
