Recipe for almost burning down a church

Supplies Need:

-1 SQL as head chef (We used Julie, but really anyone will work)
-1 small working oven
-1 sketchy microwave oven
-4 oven knobs without labels

Follow the example Julie demonstrated for us through the following steps:

Step 1. Get really hungry and plan for several hours of waiting for your bougee meal.

Step 2. Have at least 3 different pans of food to bake so that you have to find a second oven. We chose to roast two whole chickens, red and sweet potatoes, onions, carrots, and peppers. I know, we fancy or whateva.

Step 3. Find an old/sketchy oven inside of a crowded storage room. It’s even better when none of the stuff is yours. Make sure its downstairs so that you can leave the food unattended.

Step 4. Turn every single knob, preferably ones without labels. For extra crispiness, turn them all up to the highest temperature to ensure even burning

Step 5. Don’t clear anything that’s on top of the oven burners. Especially the coffee makers and plastic serving pan. This is important to produce the thick ash smell. You really want this to make sure that the smell can marinate the entire Church building. The longer the smell lingers, the better. Our record of smell so far is 3 days and counting. It is a bonus if your clothes get the same aroma and you can be reminded of your success during church service.

Step 6. Leave everything to melt and burn for at least 15 minutes while you relax upstairs.

Step 7. Realize that your chicken and veggies don’t smell very pleasant. Send one person to run down stairs while everyone else waits for the panic scream so that they realize they are needed. To prevent actual fire carefully unplug everything. Then toss some water on the burning objects to stop the melting. #SafetyIsAPersonalChoice

Step 8. To avoid poisoning your team Begin opening every single window and door in order to release the black clouds into the environment. Because global warming isn’t real and pollution is key.

Step 9. Move the potatoes that are thankfully not burnt to the upstairs oven and take turns cooking each pan one at a time. Make sure the potatoes still taste good. They did. (The long wait makes for a good time to casually munch on the potatoes.

Step 10. Enjoy your beautifully made meal 3 hours later to ensure maximum hunger.

On a serious note though, Julie is a pretty bomb cook and held it together very well through the chaos. Shout out to her for always planning fabulous meals with our small budget and helping cook all of them. Life on the race is going swimmingly. Month 3 has given us a lot of time to connect as a team.

Thanks for all the prayers and support! Please keep us in your prayers. We have home visits, english classes, and construction type work this week. Love you all!
